Where records live and opinions die. 3 World Records For ACD's Bred over 250
conformation champions and 2 herding champions
.
For
many years, as ACD's were developed, there wasn't a written standard
for the
breed. When the first ACD standard was recorded, it called for the dogs
to
stand about 20 inches tall at the withers. Dogs that didn't measure up,
or
weren't able to withstand the grueling test of the Australian Outback,
consisting of staggering heat, rigorous terrain, poisonous snakes,
paralytic
ticks, nerve damaging spiders and yes, the highly feared crocodiles,
were
culled by either man or nature.
The appearance of the Australian Cattle Dog calls for a symmetrically
built
working dog with a combination of substance, power, balance, hard
muscular
condition, great agility, strength and endurance. Any tendency to
grossness or
weediness is a serious fault. Remember, there aren't any little cattle
so yes... size DOES matter.
Buzzards Ranch has had a tradition of champion
quality
ACD's since 1964. It is home of world famous
CH Buzzards Red Tubs HX, as well as CH
Rokglen
Blue Phantom. These two amazing dogs have become a major part in
the
foundation of our champion blood lines. All our breeding stock is
worked
first, quality graded, then temperament evaluated before they become
part
of the program as improvers or before being shown in conformation.
A bit of history… I joined the ACDCA in 1973
and was issued membership number 40, denoting that I
was the 40th person to join the club. Since that time, I have worked to
promote the breed first and our kennel second. I served 2 years on the ACDCA
Board of Directors in the 1980's and was voted to help put the AKC Official
Australian Cattle Dog video together, flying to Philadelphia, PA, where it was
filmed. A few months later, I flew to New York to review the video and give
our final approval, prior to public release.
In 1988, I hosted the ACDCA National Specialty in Tulsa, OK, and, in the fall
of 1989, the very first AKC Herding A Match for the ACDCA. In December, 1990,
the club became officially licensed to hold AKC herding trials. Next, I
hosted the first, ever, AKC Herding Trials, January 5-6th, 1990, again, for
the ACDCA. In 1990, I was also grandfathered in as a herding judge. These
are just a few of the things I have done for the ACDCA in the name of
education and promotion of the Australian Cattle Dog. I took on all of these
projects and never asked the ACDCA to reimburse me a single penny. I feel
that if more ACD enthusiasts would do the same, it would free up funds to
further benefit the breed in terms of education and promotion.
What's your history??
I, Jim Buzzard, approve this message.

Those who MAKE things happen,
those who WATCH things happen,
and those
who WONDER what happened."
